An important skill of being a more than competent attorney
is the art of speaking, specifically persuading. This is where the study of rhetoric can be
helpful. For those law students, and others, who may be interested in the topic, the website, Silva
Rhetoricae, is a great place to start.
Silva Rhetoricae provides an expansive discussion on the
topic of rhetoric including: definitions; terms used in rhetoric; branches of rhetoric;
the canons or “categories” of rhetoric; and exercises for you to try. While most of the information available on
this site is purely academic, a fundamental understanding of rhetoric may be
valuable in your career as an attorney.
